'Be Book Smart' Tour Drops by Farmers Market, Book Store: See Pics

The "Be Book Smart" campaign is raising money to help provide books to children in low-income families.

School may be out for the summer, but there's a national campaign under way to help get books into the hands of children—in particular, those who come from low-income families.

The Be Book Smart tour—which is being staged by Reading Is Fundamental, the biggest literacy nonprofit in the U.S., in conjunction with Macy's—swung through Santa Monica on Sunday. The Be Book Smart Smart Car visited the , along with book store , where children's author Laura Numeroff dropped by.

In tandem with Be Book Smart, through July 31, Macy's customers who donate $3 to the campaign get $10 off a store purchase of $50 or more.
