Beachy Cream to Open Wilshire Store in April

The maker of organic ice cream sandwiches will serve 18 flavors of scooped ice cream at 1209 Wilshire Blvd.

The makers of organic ice cream sandwiches with flavors such as strawberry balsamic and ginger molasses are opening their first parlor on Wilshire Boulevard.

"We'll have a lot of new products," said Beth Stockwell, who opened the Beachy Cream catering business in 2009 with her mom, Ann Ryan, and friend, Debbie Kimble.

They currently sell their sandwiches at neighborhood stores in Malibu, and had formerly sold them at , but stopped that operation because of a lack of foot traffic, Stockwell said.

They got to making the sandwhiches one of their regular summer visits to a family home on Cape Cod. They had an a-ha moment, Stockwell said, when she and her mom combined their molasses spice cookies with their cousin's home-made ice cream.

The new full-service ice cream store at 1209 Wilshire Blvd. will open mid-April after renovations are complete. It will retain the business' "vintage" vibe, but will boast 18 flavors of scooped ice cream and Groundworks coffee and tea.

Stockwell said it will be the only ice cream store in Los Angeles that's completely organic.

"We've done a lot of research, a lot of companies use organic milk and cream, but not every ingredient is organic," she said.

The owners hope that along the Wilshire corridor, the new store—a "perfect little neighborhood spot"—will also attract tourists from downtown.
