Cheese, Juice Bar, Raw Food Join The Market

Raw food guru Matthew Kenney announces opening of restaurant and culinary school next to three other new shops at Santa Monica Place.

Raw food chef Matthew Kenney will open a culinary school and restaurant this fall at , one of four new purveyors joining The Market's roster of gourmet grocers.

The menu at Kenney's new restaurant, M.A.K.E., will consist of organic, unprocessed, plant-based foods that are heated below 105 degrees. It's still under construction, but the menu is set to include heirloom tomato lasagna (layers of pistachio pesto with red pepper marinara); kimchee dumplings and sweet corn ravioli (corn-mint pesto, tomato, pepper and herb oil).

"I want to share the lifestyle and enjoyment of raw cuisine with our diners in Los Angeles, where amazing local produce and a clean-living culture already exist," Kenney in a press release.

The chef—who owns and operates OKC in Oklahoma City and In the Raw in Chicago—will also make his West Coast debut with a culinary school for cooks of all skill levels. They'll be able to try their hands at using fancy tools, such as dehydrators, thermal immersion circulators and smokers.

  • Curious Baker will open in August, featuring sandwiches, salads and a full bakery, with croissants, muffins, scones, Danish, cookies and brownies. The location will also offer a juice bar with smoothies and healthy drinks.
  • Curious Cheese offers more than 30 kinds of cheese from across the world, along with a variety of cured meats and wine and beer-your taste buds will thank you. Curious Cheese is already open.
  • La Petite Pantry offers packaged food and utensils, and kitchen cabinet  staple ingredients such as almond flour, pistachio nutmeat, cupcake papers and pannetone cups. La Petite Pantry opened last week.
