Confused on the Beach Bike Path?

New markings should help, city says.

New signs and crosswalks, plus fresh coats of paint on pavement markings, should help cyclists and pedestrians better understand the rules of the beach bike path, said Santa Monica beach administrator Judith Meister.

The signs will direct travelers to local destinations, such as Palisades Park, and also warn them of special speed zones, such as near playgrounds. Fresh markings will make it clearer which sections of the path are for cyclists and which sections are shared.

The idea behind the new signs and paint "was to alert people," Meister said. "We know it was confusing."
