Motorcyclist, From Culver City, Killed on Pico Boulevard

The 22-year-old dies after striking a car at 25th Street in Santa Monica.

A 22-year-old Culver City man was killed Monday afternoon in a crash on Pico Boulevard and 25th Street.

The crash—involving a vehicle and a motorcycle—was reported to the police at 1:03 p.m. in the 2500 block of Pico, said Santa Monica Police spokesman Sgt. Richard Lewis.

Alexander Smollins died at the scene of the crash, said an investigator with the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

Smollins was eastbound on Pico when he struck a car driven by a 26-year-old Inglewood man, police said. The car had been northbound on 25th Street and turned left onto Pico after stopping at a stop sign when it was struck by the motorcycle, according to police.

The crash occurred between Santa Monica Car Wash and Josie Restaurant.

Pico Boulevard between Cloverfield and 25th Street was closed to traffic for more than four hours while police investigated.
