Josh Duhamel to Lead Santa Monica Beach Run

Donations collected at Sunday's youth run will benefit the American Red Cross' campaign to help Southern Californians prepare for natural disasters.

Transformers star Josh Duhamel will lead a 2-mile youth run Sunday morning on Santa Monica Beach.

Registration for the 11 a.m. run is at 9 a.m. at beach parking lot No. 5, where Ocean Park Boulevard meets the beach at 2600 Barnard Way. Participants—all ages are welcome—are asked to make a $10 donation to the American Red Cross' PrepareSoCal disaster preparedness campaign.

Participants are also asked to wear red.

The campaign helps residents prepare for disasters, and pays for relief supplies that could aid recovery efforts for events such as a major earthquake.

At youth beach runs in January 2010 and March 2011, Duhamel led thousands of joggers who raised more than $200,000 for Japanese and Haitian earthquake relief efforts.

"There is great joy in running and knowing that you're also helping the American Red Cross prepare Southern California for disaster," Duhamel said in a press release.

The course will take runners one mile north to the Santa Monica Pier, then back to the parking lot starting point.

Children under 16 are required to bring a parent or adult guardian along. Runners and joggers should wear something red to show support for the Red Cross.

Credit cards and cash will be accepted. Checks and money orders should be made out to American Red Cross with “PrepareSoCal" written in the memo line. For more information and to register, visit american.redcross.org/JoshYouthRun2012.
