The Main Event

  • Feeling charitable? Take part in the and 95.5 KLOS Radio's annual blood drive, which is now in its 30th year. The drive is happening at the Red Cross' SM HQ today from 2 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you plan to donate, be sure to call 800-733-2767 to make an appointment. Also, you need to be more than 17 years of age and at least 110 pounds in weight.

The Runner-Up

  • Cinema on the Street, the free movie series on the , comes to an end tonight. The finale promises to be grand indeed: The Buster Keaton-starring silent movie The General will be shown, with pianist Rick Friend providing background music. The screening starts around 7:30 p.m. between Wilshire and Arizona (near ).

Other Happenings

  • Dance choreographer Kevin Williamson debuts his original production Liminal Bust tonight at . The show starts tonight at 8:30 p.m.; additional performances take place Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $20, or $15 if you're a Highways member, senior or student. Williamson is part of kDub Dance, a group of Los Angeles artists and educators who "work to exercise the exchange of new ideas between its authors and audiences in the medium of dance theatre," according to the group's Web site.
  • —the  project that provides counseling, guidance and ongoing mentoring to youth by bonding them with homeless animals—salutes its latest batch of program graduates this morning. The graduation ceremony takes place at  starting at 11:30 a.m.
  • The Neil Patrick Harris-directed theatrical performance The Expert at the Card Table continues tonight at the . The show, which features and was written by magician Guy Hollingworth, revolves around a couple of boys whose love of the craft takes a dark turn as they grow up. The show starts at 7 p.m.
