Letter: Airport Vision Meetings Are Pointless

A letter to the editor from Lloyd Saunders in response to the Feb. 28 article "Anti-Airport Activists Absent at 'Visioning' Forums."

Editor:

Just for the record, the majority of the "Anti Airport Activists" whom I know and or know of have infact participated in one of the so called "Visioning Sessions."

What we have discovered and as Airport Commissioner Ofer Grossman pointed out Monday night is that this is nothing more than a gathering of community members and pilots, scripted pilots at that.

The facilitator does nothing more than ask a couple of questions and then he writes everyone's answer on a very large piece of paper hanging on the wall.  How can anyone come to a logical solution in this manner? Frankly, when I attended I felt like I was back in third grade.

The city's version of this "visioning" is so skewed it is just shy of pathetic and at the cost of $140,000. Then again, as you heard Monday night, the city hires many many consultants.

What is going to be revealed by the community visioning is just how the city staff has financially run this airport, or shall I say lack there of.

May I only suggest that you attend one of these for yourself to actually see and join the few neighbors and many pilots (scripted pilots at that) coming from far far away... 260 people are going to decide the fate of SMO? Give me a break.
