Man Expected to Survive Downtown Stabbing

Santa Monica police search for assailant who fled after stabbing man in front of his girlfriend Monday night.

A man, 19, was expected to recover from multiple stab wounds sustained Monday evening in an attack near a bus stop at Santa Monica Boulevard and Fourth Street. 

The victim was exiting toward the bus stop with his girlfriend when he was stabbed at about 6:15 p.m., according to Santa Monica Police Department spokesman Sgt. Richard Lewis.

"The victim was taken to a local trauma center where he was in stable condition with non-life threatening wounds," Lewis said.

A search for the assailant, which included temporarily closing , turned up empty. Lewis said he expected to release an image of the suspect later.

The victim told police he did not know the suspect, who investigators have initially described as in his late 30's to mid-40’s, 5 feet 8 inches tall, 190 pounds, with black hair and wearing a black hat, white shirt and tan cargo shorts.

"There were several witnesses to the incident and the investigation is continuing," Lewis said.
