Every day, students walk by the headquarters of KCRW, many of them probably wishing they could be a part of the reputed NPR affiliate that is located on the campus. Soon, some of them will have that opportunity—and, even better, they'll be getting paid to do so.

Starting Feb. 14, the first day of the college's spring semester, a new program will provide stipends to SMC students interning at KCRW. The program is being funded through a $25,000 contribution to be made over the next two years by Electro Rent Corporation Chairman/CEO Daniel Greenberg and his wife, Susan Steinhauser. Greenberg is also a board member at , which is located at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center.

KCRW interns typically work in the radio station's Music Library or in the studio. They can get hands-on experience helping with audio and video production, event and nonprofit management, and other areas.

"We have the ability to attract students with skills we need—like video editing or social-media expertise—while exposing them to the kinds of work that can enhance their education and give them a strong reference on their résumés," KCRW General Manager Jennifer Ferro said in a statement.

In related news, SMC recently approved another new program, , which provides full scholarships and other services to at-risk students hoping to break into the entertainment industry.
