Santa Monica Patch's new weekly feature, Patch Picks, highlights editor and reader picks of great local businesses, destinations, services, organizations, ways to spend a day off and more.

You’ll find useful lists to help you, your family, friends and significant others find the best places for such events as Sunday brunch, date nights and kids parties as well as the best parks, florists and other businesses.

For , we assembled the top five places to get a burger in Santa Monica, according to to a related question. With our second one, we proposed some good places to get away from the noise and find some serenity.

Our third list was created by special request, after Santa Monica Patch reader Jill Kobritz asked where people can take their dog—with the exception of the most obvious suggestion: parks.

• : The Southern California pet resource center carries collars, leashes, flea and tick medication, toys and much more. It also holds adoption fairs, for dogs and other pets, on the weekend.

• : The wine-tasting bar has a dog-friendly patio directly in front of the building. Swill away, and munch on food too, while your dog enjoys some treats laid out by the employees.

• : Since it opened more than a decade ago, the bookstore has allowed dogs inside—so long as they're on a leash. One of the sales reps told Santa Monica Patch that, surprisingly, accidents have been rare over the years.

• : This pet store has a doggie day spa, and a line of organic food and snacks. It's the closest thing you'll find to a Chanel Vintage shop for dogs.

Animal Wellness Center: Described as a “Disneyland for Dogs,” the center features microchipping, grooming, behavior classes, educational seminars and vaccination clinics.
