Record Heat Set at Santa Monica Pier
Heat wave brings record temperatures to several Los Angeles locations on Saturday. Santa Monica's old record was in 1979.
It was officially hot Saturday in Santa Monica.
The 's got the record to prove it.
According to the National Weather Service, a new record high of 87 degrees was set in the morning, crushing the old record of 85 degrees set 33 years ago.

"This record high temperature was unusual as it occurred before mid-morning at around 8:25 a.m.," said the National Weather Service.
It was recorded as a late-summer heat wave swept across the Southland, setting new records in downtown Los Angeles, Long Beach and Camarillo. At USC, the old record of 102 degrees from 1909 and 1979, was beat by the smallest of margins at 103 degrees.

The high pressure system started to weaken Sunday along the coast, but temperatures were still forecast to remain above normal.
"A weak high pressure will persist through midweek then cooler conditions are expected late this week as a low pressure approaches California by next weekend," the Weather Service said in its forecast.
