Rosendahl Vows to Keep Fighting Santa Monica Airport

Though he won't seek reelection so he can focus on battling cancer, Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl assured his constituents Tuesday that he remains in favor of closing the Santa Monica Airport.

It was among the long list of issues he vowed to continue working on until his term ends at the end of June.

Rosendahl, 67, represents the community of Mar Vista, sections of which abut the general aviation airport. Though he does not represent Santa Monica, which is an incorporated city with its own City Council, Rosendahl has rallied behind anti-airport activists here and in Mar Vista with promises to do everything in his power to change the departure path at the airport and to push for the closure of the its six flight schools.

He has called on city leaders in Santa Monica and L.A. to join forces. "My lawyers will work with your lawyers—we can do joint actions, joint lawsuits," he said last October.

Rosendahl has been battling stage four cancer—diagnosed in July—that started in the ureter, the tube connecting the bladder and the kidney.

After 13 doses of radiation and several chemotherapy treatments, Rosendahl said he received a good diagnosis on Monday night from his oncologist, who told him that he was on his way to recovery.
