What shall I do?  My parked car was hit on a parking lot on Main Street.  The person who hit me got out of his car, inspected the damage he did to mine, got back into his car and took off without leaving a note.   Three people observed this, sitting 15 feet away in a little cafe.  They took down his license plate and presented it to me when I returned to my car minutes later.  I thanked them for doing this.  As they gave me a description of the hit and runner, a SM Police car traveled by the parking lot.  We waved to the Officer inside his car, and he pulled into the parking lot.  As I did not witness the crime, the three people individually and together described to him what they saw.  He wrote down the information and handed me the case number he assigned to this case.  He also called to Police Heaquarters requesting a photographer to come to the scene to take pictures. Then II left.  I reported the incident to my insurance.  All AAA did was ordering a copy of the Police Report.  I am not insured for this type of damage, so AAA did not further pursue the case.  When I received the Police Report, there was only 1 witness listed.  The Officer never listed the names/  telephone numbers/addresses of the other two witnesses.  I called the Police Department trying to find why the Police Report was incomplete, that important information was absent from the Report and what their next step would be.  I was advised that they had closed their file.  The "investigator" apparently went to the Malibu address where the hit and runner resided and spoke with him.  He denied that he hit my car.  His insurance refused to pay my $2,000 repair bill based on his denial.  I called another Officer at the Police Department asking for the Officer, whose name was on the Report, to call me.   Each time I talked to an Officer, I was told that that particular Officer who was at the scene was not in the Office and they didn't know when he will be n the office, etc, etc... That was 8 months ago.  He did never called.  The defendant's insurance company left a message for the same Police Officer to call the adjuster, but the Police Officer never did.  I wrote a letter to the new Police Chief to see to it that the Police Officer call me and explain why he did not list the other two witnesses on his Report.  She assured me that she will do everything possible to assist me because she wants the people to be happy and trust the Police.  I waited and waited, nothing pertaining to my case was received, either in writing or by telephone.  Three months went by.  I wrote a follow-up letter. No answer to that letter as well.  The investigating Officer never contacted the witness.  I asked why, and I was told that was not necessary.  I had a perfect case, but the lack of evidence without the two witnesses and a Police Officer who does not cooperate by returning a call in 9 months, it looks like the criminal is getting off the hook, and I am out-of-pocket $2,500.  The third witness who is listed on the Police Report has never returned a call to me either.    He lives in Simi Valley and does not want to come to Santa Monica to testify.  What shall I do??????
