Meals On Wheels West marked the 40th Anniversary of the inclusion of Senior Nutrition Programs in the Older Americans Act by inviting community stakeholders to deliver meals. Santa Monica Mayor Richard Bloom and Malibu Mayor Pro Tem Lou La Monte went out on deliver routes to local homebound seniors.
Paul Le Claire, General Manager of Loews Santa Monica Hotel went out into the community to visit isolated neighbors riding along with a MOWW volunteer team. The Loews Santa Monica Hotel has been a supporter of Meals On Wheels West for 20 years. On a daily basis, the hotel kitchen prepares meals which are delivered by volunteers in the area surrounding the hotel. Mr. Le Claire told RoseMary Regalbuto, President/CEO of MOWW, that the employees feel good about supporting the program which addresses senior hunger through meal delivery and volunteer visits.
March For Meals is a national campaign held during the month of March, initiated and sponsored by the Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA), to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage action on the part of local communities.
“Our Meals On Wheels programs are on the front lines every day in the battle against senior hunger,” said MOWAA President and CEO Enid Borden. “March for Meals is a time when communities can come together to stand with their local Meals On Wheels and support our mission to reduce senior hunger in America.”
