Meet New Pico Branch Librarian

After decades of advocacy, Pico Neighborhood Association celebrated the opening of the New Pico Branch library this afternoon. Located at Virginia Park, next to the Farmers Market, the library is situated in Santa Monica's poorest and most diverse neighborhood. Local political leaders (Pico Neighborhood Assoc. President Oscar de la Torre; School Board Pres. Ben Allen, Mayor Pam O'Connor, etc.) came out, along with hundreds of children and parents to proudly cut the ribbon. Meet the librarian Connie Flores, who travels all the way from Whittier. Though I ran out of storage space on my cell phone, you can sense Connie's excitement about her new job and the library as a symbol of hope and literacy in the Pico neighborhood.
