New Santa Monica Church Invites Community to Free, Artistic Exhibition at Local Gallery

Unique Visual Arts and Music Celebration of “Ritual and Relationship” To Feature Noted Singer/Songwriter/Musician and “Live” Interactive Painting Thursday, April 17, at Jeanie Madsen Gallery Near Santa Monica Pier

Resonate, a new church community anchored in Santa Monica and serving the Los Angeles Westside, will celebrate Easter week with a free, open-to-the-public arts event this Thursday at the Jeanie Madsen Gallery (1431 Ocean Ave., Santa Monica, Calif. 90401). Titled “Ritual and Relationship: Communion in Everyday Life,” the interactive experience will focus on the connecting power of rituals in relationship.

According to Resonate Lead Pastor David Cobia, the exhibition will explore rituals ranging from formal ceremonies (e.g., weddings, funerals, graduations, etc.) to such informal “habits” as a weekly beach volleyball game, Saturday morning breakfast with a friend or a nightly bedtime story through a variety of creative media, including visual arts and music.

“On the night when Jesus followers around the world commemorate ‘Maundy Thursday,’ we will reflect on the depths and nuances of the Christian practice of Communion (the Lord’s Supper) and its connections to our daily lives and the rituals of our own relationships,” Cobia said, adding that Communion will be served to those wishing to partake.

The exhibition will feature acclaimed musical artist Bob Bennett, who has performed to sell-out crowds across the country on the strength of his deeply moving songwriting, masterful guitar work and distinctly resonant singing style. In addition, Kate Peper, an accomplished painter and poet who has exhibited in some of California’s finest galleries, will create an interactive painting “live” during the event.
