Tips for a Safer Christmas This Season

Christmas trees are great to add holiday spirits in your home, but it can also be very dangerous if it is caught on fire.  When you are buying a real tree, you must make sure that it is fresh and has green needles that do no fall when touched.  Once it is brought home, regularly water it each day to prevent it from drying out.

Nearly all retail stores are selling artificial Christmas trees these time of the year.  Some of them might look the same, but some may not be fire-retardant.  Before purchasing your artificial tree, even if it is slightly more expensive, be sure to purchase one that is fire-retardant and tested by a laboratory.

As far as the decorations on the tree, try not to overload the tree with lights.  A limit of 50 bulbs is recommended by the National Fire Protection Association.  In addition, make sure there is no excessive wear on the electrical wires and put the tree away from any heat source.

Be smart, use common sense, and you can have a warm and fire-free Christmas!
