3 Ways to Celebrate Earth Day With Heal the Bay

Help restore Malibu Creek in the Santa Monica Mountains or clear trash from Santa Monica Beach.

Looking to give our local ocean and waterways a little love in honor of Earth Day? Heal the Bay, the Santa Monica-based water quality advocacy group, is planning a handful of family-friendly events, including three in the Santa Monica area. Pre-register at healthebay.org/earthmonth.

Malibu Creek Restoration
8:45 a.m. to noon, April 14, Malibu Creek State Park 1925 Las Virgenes Rd., Calabasas

Join Heal the Bay and Mountains Restoration Trust’s upstream efforts to restore and replant areas of Malibu Creek State Park. Enjoy the fresh air of the Santa Monica Mountains and help protect a local water resource.

Nothin’ But Sand Beach Cleanup
10 a.m. to noon April 20, north side of the Santa Monica Pier (look for the Heal the Bay tents and flags to register)

Volunteers must be 13 years old or accompanied by an adult. Community service hours available. As part of Heal the Bay’s Zero Waste initiative, participants are asked to bring their own buckets and gloves.

Celebrate Earth Day at Heal the Bay’s Santa Monica Pier Aquarium
Noon-5 p.m. April 20, 1600 Ocean Front Walk

Earth Day cleanup volunteers will receive free admission to Heal the Bay’s Santa Monica Pier Aquarium. Staff will teach ways to lessen your impact on the environment and exhibits offer the chance to get up close to the marine species that live in Santa Monica Bay. Also that afternoon, learn how to make everyday life more sustainable at "Blue Green: An Expo of Eco-Innovation" at the Pier.
