One of the first soldiers on the scene after an Apache helicopter fired on civilians and Reuters photographers during the July 12, 2007 Baghdad airstrike was Ethan McCord.
McCord—who rescued two children from the scene and who turned against the American wars in the Middle East after WikiLeaks released cockpit video of the incident—will make a public appearance 1 p.m. Sunday at , on the north side of .
It will be McCord's only talk open to the public as he tours Los Angeles to speak with high school students about his experience, according to Kathleen Hernandez of Veterans for Peace, one of the organizations sponsoring Sunday's event in Santa Monica.
McCord is also featured in a short, Oscar-nominated documentary, Incident in New Baghdad.
