Community Walks for Young Cancer Patient

Police, firefighters and friends turn out to raise money for the family of eight-year-old Jeffrey Hughes, recently diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.

Eight-year-old Jeffrey Hughes' name was shouted lovingly hundreds of times.

In November, Hughes was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, desmoplastic small round cell tumors.

During an event Wednesday to raise money for his family of six—both parents have quit their jobs to devote themselves full time to his care—hundreds of children kept shouting for "Jeffrey!"

After a one-mile walk fromin Hughes' honor, his friends and their parents, firefighters and police officers rallied at the corner of 14th and Montana Avenue.

Hughes waved quietly from a fire truck from Station No. 3, munching popcorn and waving as the community gathered around him.
