Dume Downwinder: Paddleboarding for Clean Water

The Earth Day event will start in Malibu and finish at the Annenberg Beach House in Santa Monica.

Longtime Southern California stand-up paddleboard shaper Joe Bark will be among the competitors in the Los Angeles Waterkeeper's Earth Weekend paddleboard race.

The 17-mile Point Dume downwinder is set for 9 a.m. Saturday, April 20. The race will begin at Westward Beach in Malibu and conclude at the Annenberg Community Beach House, 415 Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica.

“Stand-up for Clean Water brings together local watersports enthusiasts, families, athletes, and clean water supporters from all over Southern California to enjoy the incredible Santa Monica Bay, and raise awareness about local water
quality issues,” L.A. Waterkeeper Executive Director Liz Crosson said.

Seth Springer, who placed second recently in the Catalina Challenge relay, and a crew of OC1 outrigger canoes representing the Marina del Rey Outrigger Club will also take part in the event, according to organizers.

In addition, there will be a 5-mile competition at 9:30 a.m., and 1-mile fun shore races at 11 a.m. launching from the Annenberg Community Beach House.
