Forbes.com Writer Worries About 'Manhattanization' of Santa Monica

Writer David Hochman prefers Santa Monica to remain a sleepy beach community.

Santa Monica is planning several revitalization projects to lure more international visitors to the area, but not all seems to like the changes. David Hochman, a Forbes.com contributor, has decry the changes as the “Manhattanization” of Santa Monica.

In an op-ed on Forbes.com, Hochman said that big-name architects, ‘starchitects’ as he calls them, should leave Santa Monica skyline alone. He argues that much of Santa Monica’s allure is the absence of glitz as opposed to that of Beverley Hills.

Hochman worries that bigger-is-better mentality of some big-name architects would change the look and flavor of a town that prefers modesty and moderation over glitz and glamour.
