Inside Lisa Ling's Super Green Santa Monica Crib

There's a lawn of fake grass, 60 solar panels and a light fixture made of recycled takeout containers. Ling says it's the first LEED Platinum certified home in Santa Monica.

Yes, noble in the environmental scope but can we address the aesthetics? This might be a beautiful home in another neighborhood (say Venice or Mill Valley) but it is entirely different from every other home in the area and sticks out like a sore thumb. As Woody Allen said, the only consistency in LA is inconsistency but come on, have a little respect for the beauty of the block. A rather garish statement.

Garish? The best part of Santa Monica is the DIVERSITY. We are the anti-orange county, the anti-gated community, the anti-sameness. We celebrate that it is "entirely different from every other home in the area".

garish, look at her plastic face, that's garish!!....she was a very pretty woman at one time, now she looks like she belongs on "Beverly Hills Housewives"...

In the city of more and more concrete and fake lawns, where are the birds and the bees and all of the other wonderful creatures supposed to go for food and water?
