Must-Do Events This Week in Santa Monica

Library Ale House hosts Hurricane Sandy benefit, city collects used jeans during special recycling event and the second in the "Santa Monica Talks" series are on tap this week.

1.  HURRICANE SANDY BENEFIT AT LIBRARY ALE HOUSE
Where/When: Library Alehouse, 2911 Main St.; 11:30-12 a.m. Thursday
Why go:  Five beers from The Vanberg and Dewulf portfolio—the first company to specialize in importing Belgian brews to the United States—will be paired with five kinds of poutine for the ale house's version of the "Coast to Coast Toast," a celebration of the company's founding. Fifteen percent of the day's sales will benefit Hurricane Sandy relief aid.

2.  RECYCLE WORN JEANS FOR A GOOD CAUSE
Where/When: City Yards, 2500 Michigan Ave.; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday
Why go: Cotton can be composted, fabrics can become wiping or polishing cloths and old jeans can become wall insulation. Bring an old shirt, jeans, jacket or any clean and dry textiles on Saturday for a city-sponsored reuse workshop, where you can learn how to wrap your gifts in fabric—no sewing required.

3.  SANTA MONICA TALKS
Where/When: Civic Auditorium (East Wing) 1855 Main St.; 6:30-9 p.m. Monday
Why go: Find out what's happening in your neighborhood, learn about city services and ask questions of city staffers at the second event in the city's "Santa Monica Talks" series.
