Where/When: 1408 Third St. Promenade; 5:30 p.m. Tuesday
Why go: Watch President Barack Obama and GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney square off in their second debate. After watching the debate and the on-air spin, club members will share their reactions and discuss campaign activities.

2.  NAT GEO LIVE! AFRICAN CEREMONIES: DOCUMENTING A VANISHING WORLD
Where/When: The Broad Stage, 1310 11th St.; 7:30 p.m. Tuesday
Why go: Photographers and filmmakers Carol Beckwith and Angela Fisher—who have devoted their careers to documenting traditional African societies—will share images, videos and stories of compelling ceremonies and cultures that are rapidly changing in the modern world.

Why go: More than 150 families will sale used clothes, appliances, books, toys, furniture and electronics to fundraise for SMASH, Santa Monica-Malibu Unified's progressive school.

5.  AUTHORS DAVID LEVITHAN, RACHEL COHN IN CONVERSATION
Where/When: Santa Monica Public Library: Main Library, 601 Santa Monica Blvd.; 3 p.m. Sunday
Why go: Known for their series of narrative young adult novels, starting with Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist and its two sequels, Naomi & Ely's No Kiss List and Dash & Lily's Book of Dares, David and Rachel will discuss their new solo novels.
