Pajama Party at Copa D'Oro, Fall Basketball for Girls, Volunteer Opportunities and More

Here are five things to know in Santa Monica today.

1. Copa D'Oro is hosting a pajama party at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, to benefit Upward Bound House which works to eliminate homelessness among families with children. Donations of new, packaged childrens' pajamas will be accepted at the party.

2. Sign ups are going on now for fall basketball for girls at the YMCA Santa Monica/Westside located at 2019 14th Street. Fall basketball is scheduled to begin on Saturday, Oct. 5. The cost is $120. Click here for more information.

3. The City of Santa Monica is looking for volunteers. To find out about local volunteer opportunities and how you can get involved, visit the City of Santa Monica online.

4. There will be a "Mars Exploration Update" at 8 p.m. on Friday, October 4, at the Santa Monica College John Drescher Planetarium located at 1900 Pico Blvd. Stop by to get a news update on the Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity as well as a preview of the MAVEN orbiter to study the Martian atmosphere.
