Record high temperatures were set in Los Angeles as unseasonable heat hits the area.

By City News Service

Unseasonably high temperatures hit portions of the Southland for the second day in a row Thursday.

By midday, the National Weather Service announced a pair of Southland temperature records had been set for this date – 90 degrees at Los Angeles International Airport, besting the old record of 89, and 92 degrees in Burbank, beating the old mark of 91.

Highs were expected to approach the 80s along the coast, the mid-80s in downtown Los Angeles and surrounding areas and the low- to mid-90s in the valleys. Gusty weather that had prompted an earlier wind advisory were dying down, although gusts in some areas were expected to approach 25 mph.

A record high of 93 degrees was set Wednesday in Long Beach, smashing the previous high of 89 recorded in 1974, 1975 and 2007, according to the National Weather Service.

Burbank also saw a record on Wednesday, hitting 95 degrees, topping the previous high mark of 91 set in 1974.

Sandberg residents felt a record high of 76, breaking the high of 74 in 1990.

Temperatures were expected to dip as the weekend approaches, thanks to off-shore winds moving inland, forecasters said.
