Runners to Take Over Downtown During Annual Santa Monica Classic

Registration is still open for this year's Santa Monica Classic 5K/10K race, which benefits Heal the Bay.

More than 3,000 runners will gather at the starting line in downtown Santa Monica for the eight annual Santa Monica Classic, Sunday, May 19.

The event, which includes both a 5K and a 10K race, will support the conservation efforts of Heal the Bay.

The 5K will begin at 7:30 a.m., and the 10K race at 8 a.m.

Runners will follow a scenic point-to-point course along the streets of Santa Monica, mainly Ocean Avenue, that ends just steps away from the world-famous Santa Monica Pier.

All finishers will be given a pair of wayfarer style sunglasses that are quickly becoming a hallmark of the race.

The top three male and female finishers in both the 5K and 10K races will receive an ASICS gift card for a pair running shoes, while the overall first place runners will win a unique recycled glass trophy.

There’s still time to join the fun this Sunday. Registration and pre-race packet pick-up will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, at FrontRunners at 11620 San Vicente Boulevard in Brentwood.

Registration will also be available near the start line at 2600 Barnard Way in Santa Monica beginning at 6:30 a.m. on race day. Late registration will be $45 for both the 5K and 10K.
