Santa Monica Fire Department Receives PETA Award For Rescuing Stella the Boxer From Fire

SMFD used special pet oxygen masks to resuscitate the unconscious dog.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has announced it will present the Santa Monica Fire Department with its Compassionate Fire Department Award, after they rescued a boxer named Stella from a fire in Santa Monica on Saturday.

Stella was unconscious having suffered smoke inhalation and was revived by local firefighters.

"Santa Monica's firefighters are truly heroes because they don't consider their job done until all residents—both human and nonhuman—have made it to safety," PETA Senior Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch said in a statement. "PETA hopes the compassion and know-how shown by these firefighters will inspire others always to come to the aid of animals in need."
