Santa Monica Pier Launches New Movie Series

Catch flicks on the oceanfront and under the stars this fall as the Santa Monica Pier launches a new Friday film series Sept. 28.

Movies will be displayed in high definition on a 40-foot screen at 6 p.m. on Fridays through Oct. 19.

Dubbed "Front Porch Cinema," the series will kick off with The Wizard of Oz, in celebration of the movie's 75th anniversary. It will continue with The Hunger Games and Exit Through the Gift Shop, and conclude with 500 Days of Summer.

Santa Monica Pier Administrator Jay Farrand sourced some vintage-style lawn chairs that will be available to rent.

"We wanted to play up The Pier's iconic history while also creating a unique environment that evokes the comfort and warmth of your grandma's front porch," Farrand said in a statement.
