Thanksgiving Weekend Volunteer Opportunities Around L.A.

Looking for a way to give back on Thanksgiving? Here's a list of events and agencies that need your help.

The season of giving is in full swing and if you're looking to give back locally before you tuck in to Thanksgiving dinner, look no further than your neighborhood.

Here's a list of organizations and events that are seeking volunteers for Thanksgiving events.

Westside Thanksgiving

Since 1982, the Westside Thanksgiving has served a traditional hot holiday meal for families in need on Thanksgiving Day. More than 2,500 meals were served last year at the Santa Monica Civic Auditiorium by 1,200 volunteers. There are several ways to volunteer for the Westside Thanksgiving: cooking a turkey or baking pies at home, serving food, setting up, cleaning up, and more. For a list of volunteer opportunities, click here.

Feed The Beach
Bring a Thanksgiving dish to the basketball courts on Venice Beach from 7-8 a.m. Thursday to participate in Feed The Beach. The event is run by James and Nina Merced, owners of the Fruit Gallery and Taco Gallery. Donations of clothes and other items are also welcome.

One Incredible Family
Join volunteers on Saturday to prepare a Thanksgiving meal that will be served to people in need all over Los Angeles. One Incredible Family will be cooking about 1,600 meals and creating banners at the Westchester Masonic Center in Playa del Rey. To sign up to volunteer, click here

Operation Gratitude
Operation Gratitude is collecting supplies and assembling care packages for troops overseas during Thanksgiving weekend. Operation Gratitude has set a goal of 1 million care packages. For event details, click here and for a volunteer schedule and registration instructions, click here.

Gobble Gobble Give
Two Gobble Gobble Give volunteer events will be held Thanksgiving Day—one in Santa Monica and one in Echo Park. Organizers are looking for volunteers to help warm up, package and deliver food. There are several more opportunities for volunteers too. For more information about volunteering at the events, click here.

P.S. If you know of another local event that needs volunteers, leave details in the comments below.
