Motorists are in for some headaches in the Santa Monica area this week due to the closure today of a stretch of Lincoln Boulevard to make way for the installation of train tracks for the Metro Expo Line.

The closure of Lincoln at Colorado Avenue began at 3 a.m. and is slated to continue until 6 a.m. next Monday, according to the Exposition Construction Authority.

Northbound traffic on Lincoln is being detoured east on Olympic Boulevard, with motorists advised to take northbound 11th Street, then westbound Santa Monica Boulevard to get back to Lincoln.

Southbound traffic is being diverted east on Santa Monica Boulevard, with motorists advised to continue south on 14th Street to Pico Boulevard.

Traffic control officers were on hand today to help guide motorists around the closure.

Colorado Avenue is closed to traffic between Seventh and Ninth streets.

Yeah it's great for those of us with our business in downtown SM. All this congestion for a train that most Santa Monican's didn't want in the first place. I grew up here and know so many people here of them including several SMPD officers I know and not one of them wanted this thing, yet here we are our streets blocked a good restaurant gone all for this ridiculous Expo. I wonder if we'll ever have a City Council that actually listens to what the the citizens of this city want. The City Councils motto should be "For a few Dollars More".
