Thousands Attend Reopening of Santa Monica Pier Aquarium's Dorothy Green Room

Heal the Bay, Cirque du Soleil and The Santa Monica Pier unveiled the remodeled space and new exhibit on Saturday.

On Sat. Jan. 18, Heal the Bay’s Santa Monica Pier Aquarium, kicked off the New Year with a grand opening of the remodeled Dorothy Green Room.

Ruskin Hartley, Heal the Bay's chief executive officer, and Heather Doyle, director of Heal the Bay's Santa Monica Pier Aquarium along with children of invited guests cut the ribbon on Saturday.

The remodel also includes a new Watershed Exhibit. More than 2,100 people visited during the day for the grand opening breaking all attendance records.  This was thanks in part to a new partnership with Cirque du Soleil that provided free admission to the Aquarium for the grand opening and every Friday in February.

Cirque du Soleil is also sponsoring five groups of students from low-income schools to attend field trip programs at the Aquarium.  Redesign funds were provided by an Annenberg Foundation grant and funds from Proposition 84, a state storm water grant program.
