Mariko Passion, Educated Whore and Urban Geisha is a performance artist | activist | educator | whore revolutionary. She sings and rhymes her experiences and reality over beats, and produces auto-documentary videos. She educates the community and fights for social justice issues related to sex workers rights in LA, across the U.S and the world. Her songs “Decriminalize Me” personifies prostitution in an electronic influenced song that speaks of the common threads that she has with everyone else. “Keep On” speaks on the intense drive and passion of certain born to be hustlers living in a sexist world. An urban geisha takes the skillset, beauty and charm of a traditional geisha and places her with an urban working class LA Weekly reading graveyard shift clientele. Mariko Passion is an “upper working class”, urban geisha [of color] in the sprawling police city state known as Los Angeles.

Nite n Dae, is a bi-femme intergalactic, God- blessed, Goddess of goodness….Los Angeles breeds an amalgam of genres when it comes to music and NiteNdae is no exception. This singer/mc/poet from Huntington Park, has had her ear to the streets from the time she was a young child growing up in her mother’s dance studio. With influences such as Prince, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Led Zepplin, Primus, De La Soul and JJ Fad to name a few, it is expected that her sound is ecclectic to say the least. Blending NiteNdae’s psychedelic vocals and free-spirited rhymes with producer Mascaria’s experimental, galactic beats, these two have divinely created her latest release, “Om Gun,” which hits stores this summer 2010 and is available now on iTunes. At the rate her skills evolve Nite will traverse many borders and create new genre’s of her own but well within the galaxy of futuristic hip hop soul. She will also be doing a dance performance tonite!

Vice President Joe Biden tried Tuesday to rally Congress to act on gun control legislation, sayingRead More that "the country has changed and [politicians] will pay a political price for not getting engaged and dealing with gun safety." "As proud as the president and I am of the progress we have made, we need Congress to act," Biden said in a speech delivered at the White House. "The American people are demanding it. We need to make sure that the voices of the ones we lost are the loudest ones we here in this fight." Specifically, Biden was referring to politicians like Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), who saw her approval rating plummet after she voted against legislation that would expand background checks. Sen. Jeff Flake's (R-AZ) and Sen. Mark Begich's (D-AK) ratings also took a nosedive. On the otherside, Democrats in red states, like Sens. Mary Landrieu (LA) and Kay Hagan (NC), got a slight boost in their approval ratings after they voted in favor of the gun control legislation. The vice president also released a set of federal guidelines Tuesday for developing high quality emergency operations for schools, higher education institutions and places of worship. "We made sure the guide reflects all the lessons we've learned over the years," he said.
