"Kids for Kids" Concert to Benefit the Children of Japan

Beth Shir Shalom Synagogue will present "Kids for Kids," a children’s concert to raise money for the young victims of Japan’s recent earthquake and tsunami.

A time filled with music and stories, the interactive concert will feature Neil Comess-Daniels performing songs from his recent CD of original music for children, titled “On This Day And All The Time.” He will be joined by world-renowned master cellist Lynn Harrell, violinist Helen Nightengale, Brad Cobb on bass, vocalist Margaret Marston, and Alan Abrahams on drums and percussion.

“Many world traditions teach us that we must  help those in distress and by asking children to participate in that effort, we are providing them with an early opportunity to give of themselves.  It’s an extra gift for all of us that we’ll get to sing music while we do what needs to be done,” says Comess-Daniels, who serves as Beth Shir Shalom’s Rabbi.

The concert will also spotlight the talents of temple members Harrell and Nightengale who are artist ambassadors to Save the Children, an organization that creates lasting change in the lives of children in need worldwide.

“Kids for Kids” is being held with support and in conjunction with Heartbeats Foundation (www.heartbeatsforchldren.org), as a direct channel to assist children in Japan. It was founded by Harrell and Nightengale; Comess-Daniels serves as a board member.  Milk and cookies will be served immediately following the concert.
