OVERPROTECTED IN SANTA MONICA art show

OVERPROTECTED IN SANTA MONICA opens on Friday, August 3rd. On August 4th 2012 from 8-10pm there will be an opening night reception for “OVERPROTECTED IN SANTA MONICA” at Bolivar, 1741 Ocean Park Boulevard in Santa Monica.  The show will run through September 22nd, 2012.

The genesis of this collaborative photography project began with a student and parent led protest to bring Allan Barnes, a much loved, inspiring photography teacher, back into his Samohi classroom after his abrupt dismissal over student taken work that made the administration “nervous”, and that he had no knowledge of.

Barnes and his students’ “OVERPROTECTED IN SANTA MONICA” was selected to participate in JR's Collaborative "Inside Out Project". We chose to address the themes of "censorship" and "over protection". World renowned, French street artist, TED speaker JR states his vision this way: "I wish for you to stand up for what you care about by participating in a global art project, and together we'll turn the world...INSIDE OUT." - JR http://www.insideoutproject.net/#@section=home

This JR/Inside Out Project exhibits oversize photographs printed of students by students: Carina Ramirez, Sofia Bernstein, Jessica Chappe, Molly Conn, Curtis Corbett, Amy Dickey, Ray Freedman, Julia Gerhardt, Ivan Rios, Nikky Ucedo, and their teacher Allan Barnes.
