Get Out and Go: ArtWalk, Tree-Hugging, Sharon Stone

Also on tap for this weekend—beyond the LA Marathon and Buy Local events, of course—is a Purim celebration, a New Roads fundraiser and a special treat for your dog.

1. Airport ArtWalk

Where/When: ; Saturday, 12 to 5 p.m.

Why Go: The airport and City of Santa Monica Cultural Affairs Divisions are expanding the art exhibition for its five-year anniversary, bringing in live music and food trucks. As in years past, open studios, workshops and demonstrations will also be featured. More than 60 local artists and performers will be presenting works from their private studios; participants include , the , and the Art Mentor Program and Ceramic Arts.

2. Tree-Hugging Weekend

Where/When: Friday, Saturday and Sunday; kick-off event will be held Friday at 6 p.m. at the Children's Tree of Life in  (at Ocean and Colorado, just north of the )

Why Go: Express your love for the environment and show your support for fellow tree-huggers at this celebration staged by local activists Jerry and Marissa Rubin. "Baywatch" actress Alexandra Paul will be at the opening festivities, which will also feature live music and poetry readings. "People can participate in the many other wonderful weekend events and still participate in Tree-Hugging Weekend," Jerry Rubin told Santa Monica Patch. He added that people can hug trees during Buy Local Day or utilize the trees to help stretch their muscles before the marathon. 3. Montana Avenue Spring Fling

Where/When: Montana Ave.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sunday, 12 to 5 p.m.

Why Go: A scavenger hunt, bingo, live music, trunk shows, a children’s art competition and store discounts are all part of the program. Go here for much more info.

4. Art of the Matter

Where/When: at the Herb Alpert Educational Village; Saturday, 6 to 10 p.m.

Why Go: The private school's annual Kaleidoscope fundraiser has an arty theme this year and will feature works by Mark Lipson, Greg Miller, Laddie Dill, among others. All proceeds go to the school's financial-aid program. Go to read Santa Monica Patch's profile on New Roads School.

5. Concert Band's “L.A. Marathon Special”

Where/When: ; Sunday, 3 p.m.

Why Go: It's not every day you can catch a free concert at the Broad Stage. But if you need even more incentives to attend, the program will include marches, classical and jazz pieces, and Broadway hits to boot.

6. "Extreme Close-Up: Essays Inspired by the Movies"

Where/When: Annex; Sunday, 7 p.m.

Why Go: The video store's third essay show will feature castmembers Nancy Pimental, David Dean Bottrell, Adam Gropman, Kurt Carley, Tom O'Connor, Tom Cendejas and Carl Kozlowski. 7. "Actor's Instinct: An In-Person Tribute to Sharon Stone"

Where/When: ; Friday, 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, 7:30 p.m.

Why Go: Sharon Stone will be in the house for Friday's screening of Casino. Meanwhile, the second day will see a double-feature of two other classics featuring the actress, Basic Instinct and The Quick and the Dead.

8. “Galaxies, Galaxies Everywhere

Where/When: John Drescher Planetarium, ; Friday, 8 p.m.

Why Go: The second of three special shows happening at the planetarium in March, this one will revolve around "our ability to 'hear' the radio voices of galaxies, look deep into dark dust clouds, and 'see' gamma- and X-rays from the cores of these celestial bodies," according to a statement from the college. As usual, it will be preceded an hour earlier by "The Night Sky Show."

9. "Purim in the Shtetl!"

Where/When: ; Sunday, 5 p.m.

Why Go: A grand Purim celebration will be held at the Chabad House, and all are welcome. Knishes, Shnitzel, challah and chalupchke are on the menu, and there will be music and other revelry as well.

Pricing: Free (suggested donation: $10 per person, $40 per family)

10. K9s Only Treat Truck

Where/When: Joslyn Dog Park; Friday, 4 to 6 p.m.

Why Go: Gourmet doggy treat samples and single-serving doggy ice cream made by Three Dog Bakery will be served at the food truck, the only one in L.A. that specifically caters to canines.
