Get Out and Go: Josh Duhamel Warming Up for Youth Run 4 Japan

Loads of activities are happening this weekend, from art exhibits to theatrical performances to concerts.

While we've been showered by rain this week, it's looking like the clouds will be cleared in time for the weekend. Good thing, because there are loads of activities going on. Here's our comprehensive guide to the weekend, a.k.a. "Get Out and Go":

1. Youth Run 4 Japan

Where/When: ( adjacent to Parking Lot #5 at 2600 Barnard Way); Sunday, 10 a.m.

Why Go: As he did in 2010, actor Josh Duhamel will participate in this year's Youth Run fundraiser, the proceeds of which will go to . The American Red Cross of Santa Monica is hosting the two-mile run, in which people of all ages are encouraged to participate.

2. Beach House Lecture #2: Elaina Archer and Kay Pattison

Why Go: This new series hosted by the Santa Monica Conservancy doubles as a public-lecture presentation and training class for prospective docents at the Annenberg Community Beach House. The second installment features documentary filmmaker Elaina Archer (The True Story of Marion Davies) and docent Kay Pattison, who will talk about William Randolph Hearst. 3. Booze Clues

Where/When: Main St.; Saturday, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. (meet at )

Why Go: While had long lines and cold temps, this tipsy trek should have less of both. Plus, games are part of the fun too: Participating teams will get puzzling text messages and compete with other teams in the form of various challenges.

4. Mid-City Neighbors' First Public Meeting

Where/When: 's Multipurpose Room; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Why Go: The neighborhood group formally introduces itself to the greater community with its first-ever public meeting.

5. "Santa Monica: Preservation of a Regional History"

Where/When: 's MLK Auditorium; Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m.

Why Go: Find out how to research your family, your community and other topics of interest at this workshop. Also, light will be shed on the intake process for new collections donated to the .

6. VDay Santa Monica 2011

Where/When: ; Friday and Saturday, 8 p.m.

Why Go: VDay, a worldwide effort and fundraiser to stop violence against women and girls, is returning to The Broad Stage. This year's installment includes a reading (featuring actor Dylan McDermott) on Friday evening, followed by a staging of The Vagina Monologues the next night.

Why Go: The local video store has been and increasing its self-promotion through a series of workshops such as this one, which will be hosted by comedic actress/director Amy French. As part of the program, attendees will sketch out scenes, and French will participate in performing them.

Where/When: The Edye Second Space (behind ); Sunday, 7 and 9 p.m.

Why Go: Julian Sands, Rita Wilson and a host of others have hopped onboard for the second installment of this year's Celebrity Autobiography. The aforementioned notables will read from the memoirs of other celebrities for the event, which started in L.A. in 1998 and has since earned national acclaim. For the occasion, The Edye Second Space has been transformed into a cabaret-style venue, with tables and a bar. Beware: The event is suitable for adults only.

Where/When: John Drescher Planetarium, ; Friday, 8 p.m.

Why Go: The last of three special shows happening at the planetarium in March, this one "will explain—with the help of the Digistar projector—what equinoxes and solstices really are and will dispel myths, such as the 'egg-standing-on-end' story," according to a statement from the college. As usual, it will be preceded an hour earlier by "The Night Sky Show."

10. Opening and Artists’ Reception

Where/When: ; Friday, 6 to 9 p.m.

Why Go: Twenty-five members of The Clayhouse will show off the unique bowls and mugs they crafted specifically for this event. Big bowls, small bowls, rice bowls, cereal bowls, decorative bowls—you name it, they'll all be on sale. The exhibit will be on display through Apr. 30.

11. SMC Symphony Orchestra

Where/When: ; Sunday, 4 p.m.

Why Go: Beethoven will be celebrated with performances of Symphony No. 6 (Pastoral) and the Triple Concerto. SMC faculty members Julia Kozlova, Martine Verhoeven and Kevin Torfeh will perform piano, violin and cello, respectively.

12. Miss Nelson Is Back

Where/When: ; Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m.

Why Go: Friendly for all ages, the performance features the story of students who take on their substitute teacher. It's based on the book series by Harry G. Allard and James Marshall.

13. “Sheila Pinkel: Photographs"

Where/When: art gallery; ends Friday

Why Go: This is your last chance to catch the exhibit, which displays pieces from three of Pinkel's bodies of work: “Site Unseen: Museum Guards”; “Journey to Tovangar, the World of the Tongva”; and “X-Ray Photograms.”

14. Kevin “Brandino” Brandon Quintet

Where/When: The Edye Second Space (behind ); Friday, 7 and 9 p.m.

Why Go: The six-time Grammy Award-winning bassist and producer will lead his troupe as they play cool jazz selections.

Why Go: Celebrate the opening of this new exhibit by the screenwriter, who presents a series of shot-up scripts.

19. X Cycle Chic Sundays

Why Go: The half-day bike trek will swing by various studios, including the , and feature works by Blue McRight and architect Warren Wagner.

20. Fabulous Monsters Presents Forced Vacation (Terra Incognito)

Why Go: The cabaret show is much more than just a live-music performance; puppets and dance numbers are also part of the program. The story takes place in pre-Apocalypse wasteland and revolves around alienation in contemporary society.

21. La Traviata

Where/When: Miles Memorial Playhouse; Friday, 8 p.m.; Sunday, 2 p.m.

Why Go: The Giuseppe Verdi opera, which takes place in 1840s Paris, is staged by Pacific Coast Opera, a new company that puts on affordable theatrical productions.
