Thousand of dollars worth of jewelry was stolen the high-end retailer.

An alleged con artist bilked an undisclosed amount of jewelry from Fred Segal in Santa Monica, according to TMZ.

The alleged conman called up the store claiming to work for rapper Nick Cannon, who is in need of some immediate jewelry for his wife, Mariah Carey. The man asked the store employee to meet him at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood with the jewelry. When the employee arrived at the hotel, a man claiming to be a security guard told her that he would take the jewelry to the rapper’s room and come back down with the payment.

That was the last time the store employee saw the jewelry or the man. The Los Angeles Police Department is now on the case. The network of the jewelry was not disclosed but is estimated to be in the thousands of dollars, according to TMZ.
