Jazz on the Lawn Lineup Announced

The free series happens every Sunday in August.

The lineup for the sixth-annual Jazz on the Lawn series is ready to go, the Cultural Affairs Division announced Thursday morning. Sextet Theo Saunders and Intergeneration, throwback artists the Tony Guerrero Quintet and violinist Lesa Terry lead the lineup, which is twice as big as last year's.

The series will take place on the lawn in front of from 5 to 7 p.m. each Sunday in August. The full lineup is as follows:

Aug. 7: Theo Saunders and Intergeneration, a sextet that performs jazz, swing, country and Broadway selections

Aug. 14: The Tony Guerrero Quintet, which plays Great American Songbook tunes made famous by Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Louis Armstrong and other legends. Also that night, Christine Suarez will lead a "dance jam" during which members of the community can learn new moves.

Aug. 21: The Electones, a trio that plays blues, jazz and soul songs on organ and guitar. The show is part of the Los Angeles County Arts Commission’s Free Concerts in Public Spaces program and sponsored by Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky. It's also part of Tour Da Arts, Vol. 3, the ’s art-themed bike tour that is taking place throughout the city. Also at the event, Green Vets LA will distribute free reusable bags, as part of the Office of Sustainability and the Environment’s Bring Your Bag initiative, before the Single-Use Bag Ban goes into effect on Sept. 1.

Aug. 28: Lesa Terry, a violinist who performs bebop, blues, swing and world-music songs along with her rhythm section

For all the shows, free parking will be available at the parking lot after 4 p.m. Also, free bike valet service will be available in the parking lot north of City Hall.

Attendees are encouraged to bring beach chairs, blankets and food. Free beverages will be provided by the Izze Beverage Company and O.N.E. Coconut Water. Lake Street Creamery and A Rockin Ice Hawaiian Shave Ice food trucks will sell desserts.
