Santa Monica Pier Aquarium Teams Up For Exhibit with Cirque du Soleil

Heal the Bay's Santa Monica Pier Aquarium will unveil the new, free exhibit this Sat. Jan. 18, which will run through February.

Heal the Bay’s Santa Monica Pier Aquarium kicks off the New Year with a Grand Opening on Sat. Jan. 18 of the remodeled Dorothy Green Room. Admission is free to the marine science center throughout the Grand Opening afternoon, sponsored by Cirque du Soleil.

The free admission is courtesy of Cirque du Soleil, which kicks off a multi-layered, community partnership with the Aquarium as it sets up its blue-and-yellow big top in the beach lot adjacent to the Pier for a run of their show, TOTEM.

The partnership with Cirque Du Soleil continues in February, with their sponsorship of Free Fridays at the Aquarium. Cirque Du Soleil will also provide funding for five groups of students from low-income schools to attend field trip programs at the Aquarium.

Visitors become better stewards of the ocean by seeing and interacting with the animals that live in the Santa Monica Bay first-hand.  Students who benefit from the classes funded through Cirque du Soleil come from low-income, disadvantaged neighborhoods –most live only miles from the ocean will have their first experience with the beach environment and marine life.
