The Santa Monica Pier’s Front Porch Cinema series returns for a second year of free community films every Friday for four weeks, starting this Friday, Sept. 27. Doors open at 6 p.m. Screenings begin at 7:30 p.m.
This year the series will collaborate with the nonprofit arts organization Film Independent as well as the partnership with LA's outdoor movie, food truck and live music series EAT|SEE|HEAR.
“Watching movies outdoors under the stars is always fun, and to be able to do it on the historic Santa Monica Pier is especially cool,” said Associate Director of Programming Doug Jones in an official statement. “It's a unique experience and a great opportunity to discover some new films and revisit a few classics with Los Angeles and Santa Monica audiences.”
The lineup for the series is as follows:
Sept. 27: Lost Wild Ones – A celebration of Los Angeles-based Wild records, raw and lively ‘50s style rock ‘n roll and Rockabilly sound. The evening will also feature live musical performance by the Rhythm Shakers.
Oct. 4: The Sting – The 40th anniversary of the Robert Redford and Paul Newman con men caper. Watch for a cameo appearance by the Santa Monica Carousel. The evening will also feature a live ragtime pianist and card tables.
Oct. 11: Snoopy Come home! – The whole famlly (plus your dogs!) are invited to the pet-friendly screening featuring the Peanuts gang. There will also be a donation drive at the event for Best Friends Animal Society Los Angeles.
Oct: 18: Chasing Ice – an environmental documentary. Photographer James Balog took time-lapse cameras to the Arctic to film the world’s changing glaciers.
