Santa Monica Symphony Says Goodbye to 55-Year Home

The farewell concert, which will feature some of Tchaikovsky's greatest works, is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 25.

The Santa Monica Symphony will perform some of Tchaikovsky’s greatest works in what has turned into a farewell concert for the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, which is slated for closure.

The concert, billed as a Tchaikovsky Spectacular, is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 25.

"We feel that very deeply and sadly because in the way it was the right place for us," Music Director Guido Lamell said. "There’s no question, it’s a great loss to the community. This was a major location for so many performances."

The concert is the final of the 2012-13 season, and the last performance in the Civic, which will shutter indefinitely on June 30 because of escalating financial problems.

Lamell told the Santa Monica Mirror that he plans to do what he can to bring back to the Civic or build a new Performing Arts Center.
