Bicyclist Pleads Guilty to Injuring Santa Monica Pedestrian

Rocky Martin of Los Angeles failed to stop at a red light on Santa Monica Boulevard at the Third Street Promenade.

A Los Angeles man was sentenced to three years of probation after pleading guilty to injuring a pedestrian when he failed to stop for a red light in Santa Monica.

Rocky Martin, who pleaded to a felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon on May 31, was also given 30 days of community service.

Martin was riding his bike on June 24 at Santa Monica Boulevard at the Third Street Promenade when he failed to stop for a red light and struck a pedestrian that was in the crosswalk, according to Santa Monica Police Sgt. Richard Lewis. The pedestrian suffered serious injuries.

Santa Monica Police plan to crack down on bicycle violations from July through September.
