The grim death toll from Friday in Santa Monica went up Sunday, as a fifth person who was shot near Santa Monica College reportedly died at a Westwood hospital, according to reports.

Marcela Franco, 26, was surrounded by her family as she died at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Her father, Carlos Franco, was killed instantly as the two were in his car at the school on Friday.

Her death was reported by Santa Monica College president Chui L. Tsang on the campus website.

"Our deepest sympathies go to the Franco family,'' Tsang wrote. "At an appropriate time, the college will convene a campus-wide memorial.''

Franco's death was reported as the school made counseling available to faculty, staff and students today, in the aftermath of Friday's rampage by a man unofficially identified as John Zawahri, who was to turn 24 Saturday. He was shot and killed by police at the Santa Monica College campus, in the midst of blood and chaos that enveloped a mile-long stretch of the city Friday.

A vigil at a satellite SMC campus, near Santa Monica Airport, was to begin just as word of the woman's death was reported.

Counseling was to be offered to students, staff and faculty at the airport branch today, according to a notice posted on the college website by the SMC Counseling Department. Local restaurants and vendors were donating food.

"We know that people are experiencing a wide range of emotions whether they were on or off campus,'' the message states. "Now is a time for the college community to come together to support one another and to begin to heal.''

Another shooting victim, Debra Fine, was discharged home in good condition Saturday evening.
