American Film Market Not Happy with Slow Developments of New Venue, Hotels

Since AFM renewed its commitment to host the trade show in Santa Monica through 2017, two venues have shuttered their doors and new ones are slow to developed.

The city of Santa Monica is working on making the producers of the American Film Market festival happy and to keep the festival in town, the Santa Monica Lookout reports.

When the Independent Film & Television Alliance, the organization in charge of putting on the independent film industry trade show, announced in 2011 that it would extend AFM's stay in Santa Monica through 2017, it was expecting a development of a new movie theater complex and moderately price hotels to be built, none of which has happened, the Lookout reports. Instead, two venue spaces have since closed, AMC Criterion 6 and the Civic Auditorium.
