Apple to Debut New Promenade Store Saturday

Apple, Inc. will reshuffle this weekend, opening a shiny new, mostly glass store for Third Street Promenade shoppers.

The new store will open 9 a.m. Saturday at 1415 Third Street Promenade, just south of Santa Monica Boulevard. Apple will simultaneously close its existing Promenade store closer to Wilshire Boulevard.

The new site was formerly home to Borders.

The grand opening was announced Tuesday morning via email to Apple customers. "Everything you love about Apple. Back and better than ever," the email read.

Santa Monica's Planning Commission approved the store's construction in August of last year. It's 34 feet tall with a massive glass façade in the front and glass panels stretching across the top of the building in place of a traditional roof.

Nakash Holdings purchased the 17,550-square-foot store in July while it was still under construction for a whopping $60 million. The deal was contingent on the electronics giant being the tenant, according to Bloomberg.

Brokers involved in the transaction told Bloomberg the price "likely ranks among the highest... on a per-square-foot basis on the West Coast in several years."
