Doing the Cafe Shuffle

Downtown L.A.'s Cafe Demitass will make its Santa Monica debut this spring as Infuzion Cafe relocates to Fifth Street.

Cafe Demitass, the coffee roaster and single-serve shop favored by hipsters in in Little Tokyo, is expanding into Santa Monica, the cafe announced Wednesday in a newsletter.

"We are extremely proud to announce that we'll be opening up a second coffee bar in Santa Monica. We'll be at 1149 Third Street," the newsletter read.

And it's bringing with it "the ultra exclusive Alpha Dominche Steampunk multi-group siphon machine," which according to Eater, "weighs in at a beastly 160 pounds, draws a whopping 30 amps of current, and enables baristas to extract 120 cups per hour."

Demitass is taking over the Third Street space vacated by Infuzion Cafe, which closed Jan. 25. Infuzion is relocating to 1241 Fifth Street, across from the post office, and will reopen sometime this spring, said owner Henry Cong.

"It's going to be bigger," Cong told Patch on Tuesday as he packed boxes for the move. "We will be able to offer more [food and drinks] to our customers.

Expect Demitass to open in the Third Street space, just north of the Promenade, sometime this spring.

Here's to hoping it offers the same type of events it offers in downtown L.A., such as roasting and home-brewing classes, according to its website. Oh, and let's not forget the food, here are some teases from its Facebook page: Challah French toast and bourbon caramel sauce; farmer's eggs, farro and winter veggies; atar-spiced French omelette with feta cheese, sangak (Persian flatbread) with sour cherry jam and a side of avocado.
