"" is a recently launched Santa Monica Patch series that spotlights new businesses in our city. For our fourth edition, we focus on Moxie Beads, a recently opened retail store located at 2200 Main St. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at the store at 9 a.m. on Friday.
We interviewed the owners of Moxie Beads, Denise Mankewitz-Foster and Randy Foster, who explained how they're accommodating local artists and why Santa Monicans will be attracted to their store.
Santa Monica Patch: Why did you decide to open your business in Santa Monica in particular?
Denise Mankewitz-Foster and Randy Foster: We know how shoppers are attracted to the fantastic shopping in Santa Monica, and we knew we were offering a product that they seek.
Patch: Please provide a brief history of your business.
Mankewitz-Foster and Foster: We opened our first store 10 years ago in the South Bay, our second five years ago at the base of Palos Verdes, and this is the third.
Patch: What makes your business unique?
Mankewitz-Foster and Foster: We offer both raw materials for handcrafting jewelry and space for 10 different local artists to display their creations.
Patch: What contribution(s) do you believe your business will make to the city?
Mankewitz-Foster and Foster: We bring a family-owned and -operated creative space for everyone to come and enjoy.
Patch: Why should Santa Monicans frequent your business?
Mankewitz-Foster and Foster: Because they will have a fantastic customer experience, learn something they didn't know and find wonderful treasures at great prices.
